Western Australian Queen

Western Australian Queen

I started painting 6 months ago and am loving it. I am using acrylics - took me a while to work out how to do a wet palette and not have the paint dry and go gluggy by the time it gets to the canvas. I love working big - usually using canvas sizes 120cm by 90cm - so much fun.

I am excited to be the January guest artist at the Iluka Emporium (NSW) and have just finished this piece which is now hanging there with a few other of my pieces. This is a Western Australian mallee eucalyptus flower known by the Noongar name of Mottlecah.

It was so much fun to do. I stared thinking that it would be a breeze, got to a long awkward period where I thought it would never look right, then I just let go and had a great time.
