A friend of mine, who likes my artwork, took a trip to Egypt a couple of years ago. While he was there, he took a picture of a lamp shop and good naturedly!) challenged me to paint it.
If there's one thing I love, it's a good artistic challenge! I am one of the most non-competitive people you'll ever meet, but I am extremely self competitive. Once I saw the lamps, I couldn't rest until I tackled them.
One thing I have learned over the years ~ and especially while working on "The Lamp Shop" ~ is to paint what you actually see, not worrying about making it "look" like the item you're painting. If you concentrate on what's there in terms of shape, color, and value, and remove the expectation of painting a particular object, it comes together correctly.
Have a great day!
