Florida Cracker Cow Hunters
This is a painting of Florida Cracker Cow Hunters. It is based on a pencil drawing done by Frederick Remington in 1895.
They rode McClellan saddles and, much like Australian Drovers, used whips and dogs to round up cattle. The first cattle brought into North America was by Ponce DeLeon in 1521 landing in what is now Florida.
He was driven off by the Calusa tribes letting the cattle escape and running wild for several hundred years.
