I used to see lots of barns on our family weekend outings in the countryside of the Midwest U.S. Many of them had ads for “Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco”. That left a lasting impression on my memory. That’s why I decided to paint this particular scene.
I used acrylic paints and then colored pencil for some of the lines on the barn. Since I’m a newbie to painting, I cannot paint the straight lines between the boards on the barn.
I also feel, now that the piece is finished, that the field behind the barn is perhaps a bit too intense. I will probably change that. I will also probably, darken the tree line in the background. The darkening of the clouds was added to give a feel of a weather change coming into the area.
The work took me about 3-4 days to complete. Although, as mentioned, I’m going to add some changes to the painting.
